Hotel Santo Tomas in Chichicastenango is one of the nicer hotels in all Guatemala. Most people now prefer the Hotel Santo Tomas over the better known Mayan Inn, which has not maintained its allure. The Santo Tomas is more lively, is more attractive, has larger rooms, and is probably less pricey than the Mayan Inn.

I stayed in the Mayan Inn several decades ago (before the Santo Tomas was constructed). The Mayan Inn was, in those days, considered "the" place to stay at Chichicastenango. But old hotels often fade. Fresh new hotels get started and capture people's attention.

Check out the various views of the Hotel Santo Tomas. The courtyards are lovely, the rooms are wonderful. Indeed it is a shame to stay only a single night; consider staying an extra day (if you are good at entertaining yourself, Chichi is a small town and you can see everything quickly). The last time that Andrea and I were in town, however, we stayed about five days.
