Other hotels try to claim they are "just minutes from the Maya ruins of Tikal." Often they are an entire hour away.

In fact, only three hotels exist within the Tikal National Park. The Posada de la Selva (Jungle Lodge) has always been the favored one. Indeed this was the hotel built during the years of the University of Pennsylvania excavations throughout Tikal.

The hotel consists of perhaps a dozen or so duplex bungalows. More economical rooms are available in the original dorm-type building. A swimming pool, bar, restaurant, gift shop, and expert guide service are all available on the premises.
